Katie Race Brin is the Chief Privacy Officer at the Federal Trade Commission. As CPO, Katie manages the FTC’s internal privacy program, which includes overseeing agency compliance with federal privacy laws, as well as developing and ensuring adherence to internal policies and procedures protecting the privacy of agency information. She also chairs the FTC’s Privacy Steering Committee and Breach Notification Response Team.
Before becoming CPO, Katie served as Senior Advisor to the Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, where she worked on legislative and policy matters involving privacy, security, and technology. Prior to that, she spent seven years as an attorney in the FTC’s Division of Privacy and Identity Protection where she enforced federal laws that protect the privacy and security of consumers’ information and worked on policy matters involving emerging technologies and consumer privacy.
Katie also worked in private practice at a D.C. law firm and completed two federal clerkships. She earned a B.A. with honors from the University of Michigan and a J.D., with a Certificate in Law and Technology, from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
